Trust in God's sovereignty

God has been revealing to me through this Advent Devotional today that I need to trust in his sovereignty in this coming year.   2020 was a changing of various jobs that I worked for a while then this current one that I do not enjoy.   I thought the YMCA would be one that would a good fit for me but they put me on furlough then unemployment.    Then I took on this Home Depot position at the end of May with the MET team.   The job pays a decent amount for a part-time position but I do not enjoy the position.

One aspect of God's sovereignty is his purposes.  It says in Job 42:1, "I know you can do all things and your purposes cannot be thwarted."  This is a reminder that God is sovereign, has a plan, and purpose for our life.   Also,  Romans 8:28,  describes how God sovereignly works all things together for his good purposes.   Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that for those that love God he works all things for good, and for those that are called according to his purpose."

Second,  God is sovereign over his will for our life and the grace through inheritance he has blessed us with his Son, Jesus Christ.    Ephesians 1:11,  "In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things accordance to his will."  This verse reminds us that he has predestined us grace through Jesus Christ; Ephesians 2:8-9.   God is sovereign over human events and planned certain things to occur according to his will.  Another verse Isiah 45:7-9,  shows God is sovereign over specific historical events and his righteousness stands tall.

Lastly,  God's sovereignty can be understood in the midst of his greatness and glory.   1 Chronicles 29:11 says,  "Yours O Lord is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and earth is yours.  Yours is the kingdom O Lord,  you are exalted as head over all."   This verse reminds us that God's sovereignty can be looked at through who he is and his character.   When we examine his power, when can see he is sovereign over all things in our life.    Reading this verse in conjunction with Psalm 19 can help us see and understand his sovereignty over all things.

Let us see how God is sovereign and in control today.  God ordains and predestines us specific grace through his Son, Jesus Christ.   God is sovereign in how he is over all events in our life.   How can we remind ourselves of his power, glory, and majesty today?   Do you know God has specific purposes for your life?
